Musikfest 1996
Musikfest 1996 marked the festival's 13th year and saw over a million visitors, due in part to the great weather throughout most of the fest's nine days. Of course, the music and the food were also a big draw! Some of the main acts at Kunstplatz included The Commodores, Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons, and The Guess Who. Artists such as The Nields, Conehead Buddha, and Lenny Gomulka and the Chicago Push performed at some of the other free stages including Festplatz, Volksplatz, and Americaplatz.
Food included the usual festival fare - funnel cake, ice cream, gyros, for example. Those with more adventurous palates could find options such as alligator on a stick and ostrich fajitas. 1996 also saw the debut of Musikfest's first website and another service called the Musikfest Message Center. Since cell phones weren't as widely used 30 years ago, attendees could borrow pagers to stay in touch while at Musikfest.
