The Records of the Current Evans Club of Bethlehem, Pa. represent the
social consciousness and intellectual awareness of a women's club aiming
to share knowledge on such topics as literature, art, science, religion, and
politics. Consequently, the Club’s records offer a profound insight into the
political issues, social concerns, and reactions of a select group of women
consisting of the wives of highly influential businessmen and academics
living and working in Bethlehem.
This collection is about the Bethlehem Area Jaycees and their history from the years
1953 to 1998. The collection includes records of financial reports, administrative reports,
community engagement, cross-organization correspondence, and award ceremonies. This
collection also touches upon the Advanced Technology Exposition, Distinguished Service
Award, Jaycees Haunted House, and general Bethlehem history.
The Papers of Sergia P. Montz, 1949-1998, are indispensable in understanding
the development of the Puerto Rican community in Bethlehem, PA. Providing a multi-pronged view of the community from the standpoint of education, cultural events, social services, and professional advocacy, the Montz papers offer an informed and self-aware glimpse into the issues and challenges facing the Puerto Rican and Hispanic community in general between 1970 and the early 1990’s.
The papers of Catherine L. Barlieb (1889-1969) reflect her keen interest in bird watching
through numerous notebooks containing detailed accounts of her walks around the city of
Bethlehem, meticulous tables chronicling approximately 210 species of birds, and her work with school children through the Junior Audubon Clubs she organized. Barlieb’s passion for wildlife is evident in her papers, offering the researcher an inside view of one woman’s efforts to identify and chronicle numerous species, aiding in conservation initiatives and inspiring an interest in birds in the Lehigh Valley.
This finding aid identifies original record books that remain the property of the City of Bethlehem and are stored in the Bethlehem Room collection of the Bethlehem Area Public Library. These minute books are original records, and are not available for public use. Microform versions are available for public use, and are listed in the library’s catalog.
The Marlene Spector Levine Postcard Collection contains over 800 donated postcards and photographs depicting notable sights and landmarks in the Lehigh Valley. The collection, spanning over 100 years, provides glimpses of these locations as they appeared in the past.
The materials in this collection were donated by an employee of the Bethlehem
Durkee facility and consists of memoranda, company newsletters, promotional brochures,
information regarding the bowling league, recipe books, and company history.
The Bach Choir of Bethlehem Collection consists of annual festival programs; programs for special events dating between 1915 and 1951; and publicity items including newspaper clippings, scrapbooks, and articles.
